I love Star Trek and Deep Space 9 and I’ve often wondered, how do you add space ships and space stations to your space paintings? They look super complicated right?!
Well, I have found a great way to get started.
I start by painting them as silhouettes. That usually means black on a bright background. Then I add the lights and other small bright details. Spacecraft often will have some kind of headlights, lights where the propulsion comes out, and electronic looking lights along the body of the craft. As long as the space ship or station stands out against the bright background, it works great!
